Expected Petrol Cut Did Not Arrive; July Ended With Higher Pump Prices
In mid-June Georgian fuel retailers signalled that petrol would get cheaper in early July. Instead, pump prices at major branded chains rose through July, with a further 5–10 tetri increase reported on 31 July — at Gulf it was the third change of the month. We put the late-July price boards side by side and estimate what a ten-tetri move means for an annual fuel bill.
43,509 International Trucks in April: A Month-Scale Load Test for Georgia’s Roads
Georgia recorded 43,509 international trucks in April 2026, 2,535 more than a year earlier. A separate annual source counts trailers rather than trucks, so the two series cannot establish one continuous trend. The April figure is useful for measuring where and when road pressure concentrates.
The 61-Kilometre Two-Border Highway: A Capacity Bet on Azerbaijan and Armenia
Georgia has relaunched tenders for four-lane roads from Rustavi toward the Red Bridge and from Algeti toward Sadakhlo. The 61.2-kilometre programme includes 26 bridges and 11 interchanges. Its first test is procurement competition after the previous round was cancelled.
The State Paid Up to 13.3% Less for Fuel in July: Why Retail Prices Are Not the Same Benchmark
Georgia’s consolidated public procurement prices for major fuel grades fell 12–13% in July. Regular gasoline was priced at GEL 2.85 per litre while reported retail prices were above GEL 3.50. The gap is real, but it is not a direct measure of retailer profit.
Transport Inflation Was 16.5% in June: What the August 3 CPI Release Can Clarify
Georgia’s July CPI is due on 3 August. In June, transport prices were 16.5% higher than a year earlier, including a 24% increase in the operation of personal transport. The next release can show direction, but it cannot by itself explain dealership prices or the cost of a specific car.
Four August Releases That Can Reset Georgia’s Auto-Market Picture
Geostat’s August calendar contains four releases with direct relevance to drivers, importers and transport companies: July CPI on 3 August, express trade data on 13 August, and both Q2 transport statistics and detailed July trade on 19 August. Preparing the questions now prevents headline-driven analysis later.
Six Kilometres Open, 9.5 Still Missing: The Network Effect on Samtredia–Grigoleti
Another six kilometres of the Samtredia–Grigoleti highway opened on 18 July, bringing the operational total to 42.5 of 52 kilometres. The remaining 9.5-kilometre first section is planned for 2027, so the corridor is improved but not yet continuous.
4,575 Emissions Violations in Six Months: The Missing Denominator Behind the Headline
Georgia identified 4,575 vehicle-emissions violations in four cities during the first half of 2026. That is already 76% of the full-year 2025 count, but enforcement capacity has expanded. Without the number of vehicles tested, the raw count cannot show that the fleet became dirtier.
One Bid, 164 Hybrids — and a Recall Question the Contract Must Answer
Hyundai Auto Georgia was the sole bidder for 164 new Elantra hybrids ordered by Georgia’s central procurement body. A North American recall covers certain 2024–2026 Elantra Hybrids, but model year alone does not prove that the Georgian vehicles are affected. The procurement lesson is to make VIN-level recall clearance part of acceptance.
Russia Says Its Gasoline Export Ban Will Run to Year-End: What Georgia Should Measure
Russia has decided to extend its gasoline export ban through the end of 2026 while Georgia still buys more petroleum products from Russia than from any other supplier. That is a supply-risk signal, not proof of an imminent shortage or price increase in Georgia.
Four Months Without Rustaveli: A Real-World Test of Tbilisi’s Detour Network
Tbilisi closed the central section of Rustaveli Avenue to all traffic from 23 July for a four-month rehabilitation. The closure redirects private cars and at least 27 named public-transport routes. The useful question is not whether congestion appears, but where it moves and whether the city measures the change.
Georgia’s Export-to-Import Flow Ratio Rebounded in Q2 After a Weak Q1
Georgia imported 100,616 cars and exported 38,759 in the first half of 2026. Same-period exports equalled 38.5 vehicles per 100 imports, down from 42.8 a year earlier. The half-year decline was concentrated in the first quarter; the ratio rose to 45.9 in the second. This is a comparison of customs flows, not a cohort re-export rate.
US-Dispatched Cars Accounted for 96% of Georgia’s Import Decline
Georgia imported 100,616 cars in the first half of 2026, 14,162 fewer than a year earlier. The flow sent from the United States fell by 13,584 vehicles, accounting for 95.9% of that decline. Geostat’s partner-country field for imports identifies the sending country, not the country where a car was manufactured.
New Listings Got Newer While the Median Asking Price Stayed Near $14,000
Between March and the first twenty days of July, the median asking price of newly listed cars moved from $13,500 to $13,900. At the same time, the share from model year 2023 or later rose from 15.6% to 23.2%. These are changes in the distribution of advertised supply, not proof that an equivalent car became cheaper or that buyers paid the same price for a newer vehicle.
Older Cars Lost Share in Georgia’s New Uncleared Listings in Late June
The share of newly listed, uncleared cars from model year 2019 or earlier fell from 39.3% before 22 June to 30.5% over the next four weeks. A comparable series for customs-cleared listings was almost unchanged. The break is clear in this listing dataset; its cause is not.
Electrified Vehicles Reached 29% of Georgia’s Car Imports in H1 2026
Georgia imported fewer cars in the first half of 2026, but the decline was concentrated in conventional petrol and diesel categories. Hybrids, plug-in hybrids and battery-electric cars increased their combined share from 21.4% to 29.0%. The customs data establish a change in the import mix; they do not establish why it happened.
A U.S. Dependability Award Is Not a Georgian Resale Forecast
J.D. Power's 2026 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study measures problems reported by original American owners of 2023-model-year vehicles after three years of ownership. AutoBridge data can show how often the awarded models appear in Georgian listings, their asking prices and how long their advertisements remain visible. It cannot show that a dependability award causes a vehicle to sell faster or retain more value in Georgia.
Georgia's Car Exports Fell 21%; Excluding Iran, the Decline Was 31%
In the first half of 2026, Georgia exported 38,759 passenger cars, down 21% from a year earlier. Exports recorded to Iran rose from 5 to 5,086 vehicles and offset about one-third of the decline across all other destinations.
Commercial EVs Barely Appear in Georgia's Classifieds — New Fleet Projects Could Change That
Two business announcements suggest that Georgian companies are beginning to test electric vehicles in commercial use. AutoBridge data shows how early the secondary market remains: 1,115 electric passenger-car listings have appeared since March, while a manual review found only a single-digit number of plausible electric vans and light commercial vehicles across the platform's entire history. This is a finding about classified listings, not a count of Georgia's registered fleet.
Georgia–Türkiye Freight Permits Have Moved Online — Border Processing Remains a Separate Question
Georgia's Land Transport Agency reportedly introduced electronic issuance and exchange of bilateral road-freight permits with Türkiye on 6 July. The change may reduce paperwork-related delays, but the announcement alone does not show that border queues, inspections or total delivery times have improved. Those effects require operational data.
Two Weeks After the July Cutoff: Asking Prices Held, While More Older Uncleared Listings Were Removed
During the first two weeks of July, the median asking price of newly listed uncleared cars increased from $14,000 to $14,500. At the same time, the number of uncleared listings removed from their original sources rose by about 30% per day. That does not mean these cars sold 30% faster: the removed listings were older, and removal may represent export, withdrawal, customs clearance followed by relisting, or a sale.
Kazakhstan's Once-a-Day Rule Concerns Fuel Exports — It Does Not Itself Ban Vehicle Imports
Reports about Kazakhstan limiting border crossings may sound alarming to companies exporting vehicles from Georgia. The cited measure concerns the export of fuel by road and places a once-a-day condition on a widely reported exception for fuel carried in a vehicle's manufacturer-installed tank. It does not itself introduce a ban on importing cars, but stricter controls may still affect inspections, waiting times and carrier procedures.
An Eight-Tetri Fuel Cut Helps the Budget — It Does Not Decide Which Car to Buy
In mid-June 2026 major Georgian fuel retailers announced they expected to reduce petrol prices in early July as global oil prices fell. If an eight-tetri reduction took effect and lasted for a full year, a driver covering 15,000 kilometres would save between GEL 60 and GEL 180, depending on the vehicle's fuel consumption. AutoBridge listing data through 14 July shows no early relative advantage for petrol listings, but the observation period is far too short to infer a change in buyer behaviour.
Quiet May Become a Resale Advantage: What Georgia's September Noise Checks Mean for Modified Cars
From 1 September, units of Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs are due to begin checking vehicle noise with portable meters that the ministry says comply with ISO 5130:2019. Our keyword scan found 98 listings that mention exhaust modifications. The segment is small, expensive and dominated by BMW, but the current data does not yet show that these listings remain on the market longer.
Sells Faster Than It's Stocked: Where Demand Outruns Supply
Compare what's sitting on the shelf to what actually sold in June. Some segments sell far above their inventory share — they're undersupplied. Others sit. The mismatch reveals where the market is tightest.
The Same Car, Wildly Different Price: How to Spot the Overpay
For the identical model and year — regardless of location — asking prices spread 40–80%. Here's what separates a good buy from an overpay, and the two levers that drive the gap.
The Turbo Tax Hedge: Beating Georgia's Displacement Excise
Georgia's excise is charged per cubic centimetre. A turbocharged 2.0 L delivers the value of a naturally-aspirated 2.5 L while sitting in a lower tax bracket — and a third of the market already runs turbo.
Uzbekistan: The Only Corridor Still Growing — and Now It Has a Treaty
As the big re-export corridors shrink, Uzbekistan stands alone as a destination still growing. The 3 July strategic partnership sits on top of volume that was already surging — but Uzbekistan remains a fraction of Kazakhstan's scale.
Toyota Camry: Anatomy of Georgia's Most-Listed Car
It's not just the best-seller — it's the market's reference point. A deep dive into the Camry's price ladder, fuel mix, and sell velocity reveals why this model defines the Georgian used-car market.
What Georgia Actually Bought in June 2026
5,480 cars left the market in June. The data reveals what Georgians actually bought — the models, brands, price bands, and the cars that flew off the lot fastest.
Iran, From Zero to Georgia's Fastest-Growing Car Export Destination
While the traditional re-export corridors contract, one destination has gone from a rounding error to the fastest-growing shift in Georgia's car-export map. The data tells the story.
Russia's Fuel Crisis Is an EV Story — but Not in Georgia's Listings (Yet)
The demand shock from Russia's domestic fuel shortage is real. Reuters reports a rush on Chinese electric vehicles. But Georgia's own EV supply data tells a different story: a plateau, not a surge. The gap between the narrative and the numbers is the story.
The Used EV Value Question: Georgian Market Data Shows ICE Depreciates as Fast or Faster
Electric vehicles in Georgia carry full import tax exemptions. When resale prices are traced by model year, the data contradicts the narrative of EV value collapse — ICE vehicles lose value at least as quickly. We chart the evidence.

From Tbilisi's deep but slow-moving inventory to Marneuli's fast turnover — a data-driven city-by-city breakdown, with sample-size caveats.
Engine Displacement and Georgia's April 2026 Excise: What the Data Shows
We analyze active listings by engine size (cc) to explain how the April 2026 reform shifted the main cost lever from displacement brackets to vehicle age.

How the choice, age, and mileage of under-$10k cars changed from March to June 2026 — and what it means for buyers.
The Underpriced Index: Spotting Value in a Stagnant Luxury Market
Using a simple ask-price comparison, we identify the segments and brands with the deepest discounts below the median listed price.
The Odometer Honesty Index: Ranking Car Brands by Rollback Risk in Georgia
Based on statistical mileage-for-age heuristics, we rank which car brands have the highest share of listings flagged for implausibly low mileage — a statistical red flag for possible odometer rollback, not a confirmed one.
The Grandfather Window: The Cleared vs. Uncleared Price Gap Ahead of the Reported Surcharge Transition
As the reported grandfathering period approaches its close, we analyze the price discount on pre-surcharge customs-cleared stock — and where the picture flips.
H1 2026 Market Report: Georgia's Auto Sector in a Year of Reform
A four-month review of the AutoBridge listing dataset (March–June 2026): the April excise reform, rising National Bank borrowing costs, Hormuz-linked supply-chain disruption, and re-export corridor contraction.
The Diesel Sunset: Triple Squeeze on Georgia's Hardest-Working Engines
Excise hikes, tightening emissions standards, and the rapid growth of alternative drivetrains squeeze diesel into a budget-restricted niche.
The Boomerang: When the Export Corridor Closes, the Inventory Comes Home
The cars that used to leave for Central Asia now compete for a Georgian buyer — and the local data shows the pile-up.
Easy to Buy, Harder to Service
The excise discount made hybrids the fastest-selling fuel type — now the after-sales map decides who keeps them running.
A Two-Speed Market
Cheap cars clear in a week, the premium end sits for three — and the official trade data says the same thing.
The Six-Year Window
Euro-5 blocks the bottom, the excise cliff penalizes the middle — the importable ICE car now lives in a narrow band.
The Old-EV Loophole
The only old car you can still import cheap is electric — and the secondhand-EV lane is already moving.
The Right-Hand-Drive Penalty
A 3x excise surcharge lands squarely on Georgia's cheapest, fastest-moving Japanese stock.
What Sellers Actually Give Up
One in four cars that sold this spring cut its asking price first — and the haircut has a measurable shape.
The Lari Is the Hidden Price of Your Car
A friendlier exchange rate is quietly helping buyers — but the GEL clearance bill and the new excise swamp the FX tailwind.
SUV vs Sedan: How the Displacement Tax Splits the Body-Type Market
The excise is levied on engine size, but the pain is sorted by body type — and SUVs sit right in the crosshairs.
16,400 Uncleared Cars — and a July 1 Deadline That Isn't Official Yet
More than half of Georgia's active listings have not cleared customs — and a reported July 1 cutoff for the overland grandfathering window, not yet confirmed by the Revenue Service, would make clearance timing decisive.
Five Months After the Reset: Georgia's Car Export Engine Is a Quarter Smaller — Inside a Growing Export Economy
Geostat's detailed January–May data settles the question: motor-car re-exports fell about 25%, the old Central Asian corridors fell a third or more, and total exports rose anyway.
The Inventory Graveyard: $159 Million Frozen in Cars That Won't Sell
Nearly half of Georgia's active car listings have sat unsold for more than 120 days — about a third of all active ask-capital is locked in cars that have sat for more than 120 days.
The Hybrid Break: How Georgia's Excise Discount Made Hybrids the Smartest Powertrain in the Market
After April 1, the excise hike punished petrol and rewarded eligible newer hybrids with a 60% discount — and the listing data shows buyers already noticed.
The Repair-Risk Map: What 6,742 Auction Records Reveal About Georgia's Used-Car Pricing
A $7,950 median spread between US auction prices and Georgian asking prices shows how wide repair economics can stretch — and where buyers absorb the risk invisibly.
China Shock: 121 Listings, the Freshest Stock on the Market, and a Healthy Sales Pace
Chinese brands are still a rounding error in Georgia's active inventory — but they are the newest, most electrified and best-priced-per-model-year segment in the dataset, and they are selling faster than most of the market expected.
The New Equilibrium: Where Georgia's Used-Car Market Settled After the Excise Shock
Sixty days on, volume has recovered and prices have re-based — the market did not bounce back to February, it landed somewhere new.
The Displacement War: Georgia's Excise Is Real, the Market Hasn't Surrendered
Georgia's April excise reform turned engine displacement into a tax line — and asking prices show a staircase that follows the excise gradient. Yet the listing mix has not rotated toward smaller engines. The median engine, the sub-2.0L share, and the big-to-small price premium are all flat. The war was declared; the market hasn't surrendered yet.
The Credit Brake: Why Georgia Has More Cars Than Fast Buyers
Prices are falling and supply is moving, but conversion is slowing at the expensive end. This article argues a hypothesis: financing access may be the hidden constraint — read the proxies, not a proven cause.
European-Brand Economics in Georgia: Older, Pricier, Slower — and Euro 7 Is Still Coming
European cars carry a prestige premium in Georgia, but the numbers behind that premium tell a more complicated story — and a Brussels regulation clock is already ticking.
The Great Pivot East: How Georgian Auto Exports Shifted to New Corridors
As parallel re-export corridors to Central Asia cooled in early 2026, Georgian dealers redirected flows toward smaller markets — Tajikistan, Moldova, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. Using Geostat quarterly trade data, this report measures the structural shift: a ~35% Q1 contraction on the Kyrgyzstan–Kazakhstan axis against rapid growth on the new vectors.
The Electric Haven: Will Older EVs Become the New Toyota Prius of Georgia?
Exempt from the 6-year age limit that now blocks older combustion imports, used electric cars (2020 and earlier) have become a tax-sheltered path into Georgia's fleet. We model the landed-cost arbitrage against a combustion equivalent and break down the real brand mix of the older-EV market.
The Transit Loop: How "On-the-Water" Sales Work Without Georgian Clearance
After the April 1, 2026 excise hike, Rustavi dealers re-route low-value cars through sealed transit to Armenia and Azerbaijan instead of clearing them in Georgia. We compare unit economics for a 2018 2.5L sedan: a $6,937 modelled saving — and the execution risk that comes with it.
Cybertruck in Georgia: The Inventory Trap
Tesla cut its Cyberbeast list price from $114,990 to $99,990 and added a $59,990 dual-motor in 2026. In two years the truck has lost roughly half its resale value — the steepest first-cycle depreciation in modern premium-pickup history. Six active Cybertrucks sit on Georgian listing sites at a $104,500 median ask and have been listed for 67–103 days. Here's the gap between price and reality.
The Import Map Is Shifting: Where Georgia's Cars Now Come From
Georgia has historically run on US auction supply — roughly half of every quarter's VIN-tagged inventory came from the United States. In Q1 2026 the US share dropped from 53% to 38% in a single quarter while Europe rose to 18%; Q2 to date shows Korea and Mexico gaining share. A separate Chinese-brand wave brought BYD, Changan and Haval into the active inventory at scale for the first time. The EU's Euro 7 standard takes effect November 29, 2026 — the next inflection point is already on the calendar.
PHEV Arbitrage: How the Death of US Subsidies Opens a Georgian Window
Plug-in hybrid sales in the United States collapsed 33.7% in March 2026 after federal credits expired. Georgia's new excise law treats PHEVs as a low-burden category. We map the arbitrage spread on 525 active PHEV listings and 23 verified VIN matches linking US auction prices to Georgian asking prices.

Buyer's Week: How the Georgian Auto Market Froze in Mid-April
For six days straight (April 14–19) the market temperature sat at or near zero. The daily new-to-removed ratio tripled, sellers added 2.87 new listings for every one removed, and price cuts kept rolling in — while headlines about Porsches "surging 54%" were statistical mirages. This report turns the freeze into a practical playbook: which segments are over-supplied, how much buyers actually knock off the sticker, and where the widest negotiation windows sit right now.
The Odometer Gap: Why 1 in 5 Used Cars in Georgia Reports a Mileage That Physics Rejects
A physics test applied to 134,305 active passenger-car listings flags 25,946 odometers as statistically impossible for the vehicle's age. The pattern is sharper than it looks: 56% of uncleared cars under $3,000 fail the test, while diesels and the $7–15k mid-market stay almost spotless.
Top-20 Car Models March 2026: Who Sold and Who Moved Fast
March 2026 completed listings — who actually sold and how fast the market moved. First month with full removal-tracking data.
Week One After X: The Market That Refused to Retreat
Six days after the new excise regime took effect, the market did not shrink, did not shift to safer cars, and did not blink. New listings rose 16% versus early March, the median jumped 19%, and the high-risk uncleared 2014–2019 cohort grew 37% in volume at 25% higher prices. Sellers chose one strategy: pass the new excise to the buyer.
Day X+2: The First 48 Hours Under the New Excise Regime
The deadline passed without panic — because the panic already happened in March. Our analysis of 19,500 at-risk vehicles reveals a 35% price surge as sellers bake in the new excise, $186M in trapped capital, and a market where half of all uncleared cars now carry an excise bill exceeding 50% of their value.

A natural experiment tracking 485 listings reveals panic sell-offs, a 32pp survival gap between at-risk and safe cohorts, and a transit trap where import costs reach 192% of vehicle value.
The Great Auto Export Reset of 2026: Why Exports Are Dropping and Prices Are Falling
Passenger car exports from Georgia plummeted 24.1% in Jan-Feb 2026. How EAEU regulations, recycling fees, and the April 1st excise deadline are reshaping the local market — and why it's now a buyer's market.
