America Is Still the Biggest Lane, but Its Share Keeps Sliding
US-built cars still lead Georgia's advertised market at 34% of new tagged listings, but the share has slid from 40% in March.

The share has been eroding all year
Among listings that carry a full 17-character vehicle serial number, the first
character encodes the region where the vehicle was built. On that basis, the American lane's share of new
tagged listings has fallen in almost every month since March:
No other lane has overtaken it: in the serial-number-tagged advertised stock of 23 August, the USA leads
with 2,725 listings (37.0% of 7,381), ahead of Korea (1,208),
Japan (1,162) and Europe (1,025). But the direction is consistent — and it matches the
trade side: Geostat's January–July release records total imports from the USA down
25.0% year on year. That trade figure covers all goods, while the listing series
tracks advertised cars, so the two figures provide separate context for the market.

The American car is older, cheaper than Europe — and most uncleared
The median US-tagged car in the advertised stock asks $15,000 — the same as Japan's
median, well below Europe's $19,900 — and is a 2020 model. Two readings stand out:
- 108,100 km median odometer, the highest of any lane and well above the market's
92,800 km.
- 66.6% still await customs clearance, the highest share among the leading lanes.
Meanwhile the other lanes show different medians: Korea's median tagged car
is a 2022 model asking $13,800 — the youngest lane in the market — and Europe's is
the most expensive. Mexico (899 listings, median $12,600, MY2021) remains the budget
volume lane behind the leaders.

Reading the assembly-region series
The series covers cars with a full serial number. The region is where the vehicle was
_assembled_, encoded in the serial number's first character. A
Korean-built car bought at an American auction therefore remains Korean in this
series. Share changes describe the advertised mix, with the within-series trend as
the main comparison across March–August.
