September’s flow was slightly smaller

The September issue of the Listing Ledger records 6,550 new passenger-car advertisements, compared with 6,661 in August. That is 111 fewer, a 1.7% decline. The comparison describes the monthly flow of advertised cars in the 25 October reading.

Earlier monthly counts are 6,451 in March, 6,518 in April, 8,291 in May, 7,968 in June and 7,311 in July. September sits above March and April but below each month from May through August. The full-month September issue is published here as a catch-up reading.

4,693 advertisements with stated fuel: electric, hybrid including plug-in hybrid, and other fuels.

The median ask moved to $14,350

September’s $14,350 median asking price compares with $13,500 in August: a $850, or 6.3%, difference. The median model year remains 2020 in both months.

The earlier price midpoints were $13,500 in March, $13,900 in April, $13,800 in May, $13,700 in June and $13,700 in July. September has the highest advertised midpoint in this seven-month reading. Each month contains its own mixture of makes, equipment, condition and clearance positions; these details matter when using the monthly figure as a shopping reference.

Clearance crossed a useful balance point

3,188 of September’s 6,550 advertisements awaited clearance, a 48.7% share. August had 3,643 of 6,661, or 54.7%. The September share is 6.0 percentage points lower.

That places September’s uncleared offers below half of its monthly total. The five-number ledger becomes more informative when the clearance balance is read alongside the asking-price midpoint and model year. Buyers can then compare monthly orientation figures with the clearance conditions of the actual cars on their shortlist.

Fuel structure uses the stated-fuel group

Fuel type is stated in 4,693 September advertisements. Within that group, 219 are electric, or 4.7%, and 1,036 are hybrids or plug-in hybrids, or 22.1%. The remaining 3,438, or 73.3%, have other stated fuel types.

The full September total also contains 1,857 advertisements with fuel unstated. Keep the stated-fuel group visible when reading those shares. The ledger’s five indicators therefore remain together: monthly count, asking-price midpoint, median model year, uncleared share and stated fuel structure.

Use the monthly ledger as orientation

For a buyer, the September combination is a slightly smaller advertised flow, a higher price midpoint and a lower uncleared share than August. Those observations help frame a search, while the individual vehicle still needs its own price, specification and documentation comparison.

This September issue continues the Listing Ledger series. Reading date: 25 October 2026. The next full-month October issue follows the close of October, keeping complete monthly observations comparable.
