One Car in Ten Is Advertised Without a Price — and No Price Index Sees Them
10.0% of 18,352 comparable Georgian car listings publish no price. Mercedes-Benz has the highest share, at 13.5%.

The listings every price statistic drops
Every market number published about Georgian cars — median asking price, price by model year, price by city, ours included — is computed over listings that state a price. That is not a choice; a card with no number cannot enter an average.
The question nobody asks is how many cards that silently removes. The answer is 1,836 listings, 10.0% of the comparable stock. One car in ten on the Georgian market is advertised without an asking price, and every price index in the country, ours first among them, computes as if they were not there.
Two anomalous hourly listing bursts — 1,018 listings on 23 April and 528 on 6 August — are corrected in the published figure. Including them would produce 3,382 of 19,898 listings, or 17.0%.
The rate is stable rather than exceptional. Month by month, the share of newly published cards with no price has run 8.8%, 8.6%, 6.0%, 6.9%, 7.6%, 6.4% since March.

What listings with no published price disclose, against listings that state a price
1,836 listings with no published price and 16,516 with one. A 17-character value is a format check, not a verified vehicle identity.
These are not abandoned cards
The comfortable assumption would be that listings with no published price are junk — half-finished drafts, expired stock, placeholder posts. The data does not support it.
98.1% of them carry photographs, against 99.2% of priced listings. The median car with no published price is a 2019 model with 74,100 km; the median priced car is a 2020 with 91,200 km. If anything the silent cars are lower-mileage. Somebody put a real vehicle behind these cards and chose not to publish a number.
Two things do separate them. Only 34.6% have cleared Georgian customs, against 41.5% of priced cards — the silent cars lean toward the import lane. And 33.5% publish a 17-character VIN-format identifier, against 46.5% of priced ones. Withholding the price travels with withholding the identifier; the same listings tend to disclose less of everything.

The expensive brands go quiet most often
Sorting by brand, the pattern is not random. Mercedes-Benz withholds a price on 13.5% of its listings, Toyota on 12.8%, Jeep 12.6%, Lexus 11.3%, BMW 11.2%, Land Rover 9.7%, Ford 9.5%.
At the other end, Mazda 3.4%, Honda 5.3%, Porsche 6.9%, Volkswagen 7.0%, Kia 7.0%. The bottom of the list is largely mass-market Japanese and Korean stock; the top is where the expensive German and large American cars sit — with Toyota as the conspicuous exception, which is what happens when a brand spans both the cheapest and dearest ends of a market.
We can describe the pattern; we cannot read the motive from a listing. Withholding a price is consistent with several ordinary practices — treating the number as the opening of a negotiation, using the enquiry itself as the lead, or pricing stock that moves too fast to keep a figure current. Nothing in a listing distinguishes them.
