The budget line changes the clearance mix

The 25 October advertised market contains 5,201 passenger cars priced from $2,000 to below $10,000. Of these, 2,939 are advertised as customs-cleared and 2,262 await clearance. The cleared group accounts for 56.5% of that budget band.

Across the wider 17,932-car advertised stock, the balance runs the other way: 8,286 cleared cars against 9,646 awaiting clearance. A buyer shopping below $10,000 therefore encounters a different clearance mix from someone looking at the market-wide headline.

The next band reverses the balance

Between $10,000 and $14,999, there are 1,627 cleared cars and 2,695 awaiting clearance, or 4,322 offers altogether. Here, cleared cars account for 37.6%. Moving the budget ceiling changes both the number of offers and the type of vehicle likely to appear.

Put the two bands alongside each other: the lower band offers more cleared choices, while the next band offers more uncleared choices. Keep clearance visible when narrowing a search; an asking-price ceiling alone leaves these two different buying situations in the same results list.

Age helps explain the shopping trade-off

Within the sub-$10,000 band, the median model year is 2014 for cleared cars and 2019 for uncleared cars. In the $10,000–14,999 band, the corresponding midpoints are 2017 and 2022. The five-model-year difference appears in both bands.

These profiles make the choice concrete: an older cleared car and a newer uncleared car can fit the same advertised-price search. Each individual offer also carries its own equipment, mileage, condition, repair needs and documentation. The age contrast belongs beside the price, rather than being treated as a quote for bringing one car to the condition of another.

Build two shortlists before choosing

For a car intended for immediate use in Georgia, start with the cleared shortlist, then confirm the vehicle’s actual location and documents. For an imported or uncleared offer, ask for an itemized completion budget covering the charges and work applicable to that exact vehicle. Request the same written scope from every seller you compare.

Keep a separate allowance for inspection and any identified repairs. A useful comparison places the advertised ask, clearance position, model year and documented completion cost on one line per car. That makes the larger cleared selection below $10,000 actionable while preserving room for a newer offer with a different completion budget.
