Passenger-car advertisements dated the 22nd–28th of each month.

A thinner week

Counting the same seven calendar days of each month keeps the comparison consistent. AutoBridge recorded 1,336 passenger-car advertisements dated 22–28 August, down from 1,648 in July and 1,990 at the June peak.

August was 312 advertisements below July, a decline of 18.9%, and 654 below June. It also fell below March's 1,392, making this the smallest of the six directly comparable windows.

Share below $10,000 and at $25,000 or above in each calendar-equal window.

But a pricier one

The median asking price moved in the opposite direction. It reached $14,050, $250 above July and $50 above March's previous series high.

Price-band composition shifted at both ends:

  • advertisements below $10,000 fell to 27.3%, from 29.9% in July and the lowest share in the series;
  • advertisements at $25,000 and above rose to 20.4%, from 18.7% in July, while remaining below June's 23.7% high.

The smaller August cohort therefore carried fewer budget advertisements and a moderately larger premium share than July. Those composition changes help explain the higher median; equivalent-car comparisons still depend on make, model, year, condition, mileage, and customs status.

The uncleared share fell

Among the target window's advertisements, 51.9% awaited customs clearance. That was the lowest share in the six-window series and 6.2 percentage points below July's 58.1%.

The advertised cohort's median model year was 2020 and its median mileage was 85,000 km. The model year matched June and July, while the mileage midpoint was the lowest of the six windows. The August cohort was therefore smaller, relatively less concentrated in uncleared cars, and lower-mileage at the midpoint.

The stock behind the flow

At the 31 August reading, the wider advertised market contained 15,202 passenger cars with a $14,000 median asking price. Its uncleared share was 56.1%, its median model year was 2020, and its median mileage was 93,000 km.

The target window's price midpoint sat $50 above the wider advertised market, while its uncleared share was 4.2 percentage points lower. Flow and stock are different views: the window describes advertisements dated 22–28 August, while the stock reading describes the market available on 31 August.

Reading the figures

Prices are sellers' advertised asking prices. The series compares the 22nd–28th dates of every month from March through August, giving each month the same seven-day calendar band. Repeated windows provide the basis for identifying persistent movement; this report records one current window.
