September Listings Fall 14.7%; Median Asking Price Rises to $13,800

Georgia's 1–7 September window had 1,691 new passenger-car advertisements, 14.7% fewer than the same dates in August. The median asking price rose to $13,800 as the share below $10,000 fell to 31.2%.

New listings fell from August's peak

The 1–7 September window contained 1,691 new passenger-car advertisements, compared with 1,982 on the same dates in August. That is 291 fewer advertisements, a decline of 14.7%.

The comparable seven-day counts were 1,298 in March, 1,435 in April, 1,695 in May, 1,926 in June, 1,789 in July, 1,982 in August and 1,691 in September. August was the busiest of these seven windows. September was close to May's level, just four advertisements lower, and remained above March and April.

Shares below $10,000 and at $25,000 or above in each month's 1–7 window.

The median returned to $13,800

September's $13,800 median asking price was $1,800 above August, an increase of 15.0%. It matched April, June and July; May's $14,000 remained the highest midpoint in the series.

Advertisements below $10,000 accounted for 31.2% of September's window, down from 40.7% in August. At the other end, advertisements at $25,000 and above reached 21.9%, up from 16.2% and the largest premium share of the seven windows.

September therefore combined a smaller flow of advertisements with a lower budget share and a higher premium share. The median describes this month's advertised mix; comparing individual cars also requires their model, year, mileage and customs status.

A smaller uncleared share

53.2% of September's advertisements awaited customs clearance, compared with 59.6% in August. The decline was 6.4 percentage points, putting September below every earlier window in the series.

The median model year was 2020, compared with 2019 in August, and the median advertised mileage was 90,000 km. September's model-year midpoint matched July's, while July's 88,000 km remained the lowest mileage midpoint in the seven-window comparison.

The wider advertised market

On 8 September, the wider advertised stock contained 15,770 passenger cars with a $14,000 median asking price. 55.6% awaited customs clearance. The median model year was 2020, and the median mileage was 93,658 km.

The new September window had a price midpoint $200 below the wider stock and an uncleared share 2.4 percentage points lower. The window describes advertisements dated 1–7 September; the stock describes the cars available at the 8 September reading.
